The Young Stars put their life planning training into action as they learn more about college enrollment, engage in neighbor to neighbor community outreach, and provide peer-to-peer training to Watts and Inglewood 8th graders.

El Camino College’s Path to Enrollment
El Camino College Admissions Officer dropped by on a Saturday to provide the young stars with critical enrollment information. She made a compelling case to start at a junior college and then transfer to a 4 year college and it is an option our students are seriously considering.

Neighbor to Neighbor Community Service
Our young stars joined Tracey in a neighbor to neighbor act of kindness as they waded into the grass and shrubs in the backyard to trim the yard to an acceptable level.

Life Planning Training at Grace STEM Academy in Inglewood
Watts based Neighborhood Youth Achievers subcontracted Youth Resilience Institute to provide life planning training to 8th grades at the Grace STEM Academy located in Inglewood. YRI thanks Boy’s Leadership Academy Senior Skyler who provided the peer-to-peer training.

The Enduring Call to attend an HBCU
Skyler has always expressed his desire to attend an HBCU and his dreams has become a reality as he heads off to Howard University in Washington D.C. this August.

High School College Dual Enrollment
Neah enrolls at both Stella High and Los Angeles Southwest College reaping the rewards of simultaneous attendance at high school and college.

Watts-based Neighborhood Youth Achievers contracted YRI to provide life planning training to 8th graders at Grace STEM Academy in Inglewood.
15 of our Young Stars are now High School Seniors this upcoming 2024 – 2025 School Year
“The rubber hits the road the first few months of senior year” is how Skyler started off explaining the college enrollment process to his fellow Young Stars members. “The earlier you start, the more fulfilling and rewarding the entire process will be.” The Youth Resilience Institute continues to strengthens its relationship with West Angeles Education and Enrichment Program (EEP) to support these young stars as they identify and apply to colleges and trade schools.
